"I have fished the Naknek for big rainbows on my own several times. This past year I decided to see what all the talk was about and booked a trip with Katmai Fishing Adventures. I will never fish the Naknek on my own again. I cannot think of a higher compliment. Katmai Fishing Adventures knows the river, has excellant boats and, most importantly, knows where the big ones are each day."

What to Expect and How to Prepare

KATMAI FISHING ADVENTURES would like to take a few minutes of your time to familiarize you with some basic information for the success of your fishing trip in Bristol Bay's splendor.

CLOTHING: You can't dress too warm!!! The trick is to wear non-constrictive layers of clothing and top them off with a warm hat, gloves and the highest quality of

RAIN GEAR: The rain gear blocks the wind, which is ever present in tundra country, especially on the river. Waders are a must for all fly-out trips and any fly fishing you plan on doing in the Naknek River. Chest waders are the only sensible option, they are also an excellent source of warmth. During June, July and August you will find Gore-Tex breathable waders adequate protection, for September and October you may want to consider neoprene for additional warmth. Though we carry a limited supply of waders for your convenience, it is often more comfortable for you to bring your own.

TRIP SCHEDULES: Our trip schedules vary depending on the targeted species and fishing destination. We will prepare you the evening before for what you might expect the following morning. We do our best to offer you the premium fishing opportunity during your stay, whether that means 4 a.m. or 8 a.m. departure from the dock. Quality fishing is the only schedule we maintain and you can expect a minimum of 8 hours for a full days fishing and 4 hours for a half-day. Fishing licenses are available at the lodge. Please be sure to have your fishing license along with any required stamps in your possession as Alaska law requires that you have it with you while in the field.

FISH PROCESSING: ALL FISH PROCESSING IS INCLUDED IN YOUR TRIP COST. Freezer facilities are available and we will be happy to assist you in packing salmon for your trip home. You will need to bring a wet lock box or cooler for packing. We do our best to keep a small supply on hand, should you wish to purchase one. We are happy to assist you in keeping any salmon you might enjoy taking home, however we do not allow the packaging and/or processing of any of Alaska's freshwater fish, for your home use. We ask that you understand these are slow growing specie that do not keep in a freezer with the same high quality of our salmon.

GRATUITIES: Trip rates do not include tips for guides or lodge employees. We will be happy to assist you with recommendations if requested. We urge you to share your gratuity in direct relation to the pleasure and quality of service you received. We are pleased you have chosen Katmai Fishing Adventures and Alaska Sportsman's Bear Trail Lodge for your stay. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your Alaska memory, one that will be unforgettable for its beauty, experience and hospitality!
